With temperatures soaring outside, and the prospect of getting into swimwear upon arrival at our holiday destination, many of us are seeking lighter, healthier options. Luckily, DXB has an abundance of healthy plates, and drinks that pack a mighty vitamin punch. Low on calories, and high in nutrients, these are the dishes to order when you’re looking for something light pre or post flight.

SUPER SALAD

At just 271 calories, the San Fran super salad from Giraffe is light choice whilst still being hearty and filling. Comprised of fresh beetroot, poy lentils, radish, carrots, baby spinach, alfalfa sprouts, pomegranate seeds, muki beans, toasted seeds, almond and pistachios. Each of the ingredients are tossed in a refreshing lemon and olive oil dressing.

AVOCADO TOAST

Flying in the morning? Don’t be tempted to skip the most important meal of the day. No, not when The Kitchen by Wolfgang Puck’s avocado toast is the perfect nutritionally balanced way to kick start your metabolism. A slice of fresh toast is topped with a creamy layer of avocado, before being topped with sweet cherry tomatoes, a soft poached egg and crispy red onion slices. With a sprinkling of feta to garnish, this is both nutritious and delicious.

POKE BOWL

At neon-lit Wanna Poke, you can choose from four poke bowls topped with fish, chicken or falafel. Our favourite, is the zesty Ahi tuna – tuna, wakame (seaweed), edamame, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and pickled ginger doused with sesame mayo.

SOUTHWESTERN BOWL

Though known for its wings and rings, Hard Rock Café also has a few lighter options on its menu. The Southwestern bowl is a fajita spiced chicken breast served with quinoa corn salad, pico de gallo, black beans, red cabbage and fire-roasted peppers. Plated up with mixed greens and finished with guacamole, Mexican crema plus a side of cilantro honey lime dressing, it’s a flavoursome affair.

QUINOA BOWL

Fans of eggplant and miso dressing will love Pret A Manger’s roasted eggplant and quinoa bowl. The grab and go dish is packed with a fibrous mix of quinoa and rice, pickled cabbage (great for boosting healthy gut bacteria), eggplant, avocado and sweetcorn. Finished with lemon juice and an earthy miso dressing.

ACAI BOWL

The yoghurt acai bowl from Treehouse Juicery, is the perfect fresh (and highly Instagrammable) pick-me up at any time of day. Dive into acai, strawberry, blackberry, chia seeds, cashew nuts, yoghurt, goji berries, dried cranberries, granola and beetroot (which helps give it a bright pink hue). Chilled, sweet and seriously pink, think ice cream without the guilt.
