In the words of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s late founding father, “A country is not measured by the size of its area on the map. A country is truly measured by its heritage and culture.”
And, for all the magnificent things planned for the Year of Zayed, it’s DXB’s art gallery that draws our attention the most. Before jetting off, check out the excellent exhibition before the check-in area – you won’t be disappointed.
Some of the stunning pieces include Emirati artist Diaa Allam’s breathtaking portrait of HH Sheikh Zayed. His work is a modern twist on calligraphy, in which he employs graphic design elements as well as contemporary art.
His piece is accompanied with another quote from HH Sheikh Zayed, “Grant me agriculture and I shall guarantee civilisation for you.” Allam produced two alongside five other artists from Mawaheb Studio, which provides a space to foster its students’ abilities.
In addition, the MOJO studio has produced a piece of mosaic art using imagery of His Highness.
Alongside the huge canvas paintings are photographs from landmark dates in the country’s history including the moment HH Sheikh Zayed signed the declaration that sealed the federation of the UAE alongside the founding fathers.
So, if you’ve missed out on your history lesson this holiday or are a culture vulture that’s never full, head over to this extraordinary gallery and see the works for yourself.
The Year of Zayed Gallery is located in Terminal 3, Departures.
